When I started conjuring the idea for my The Dark Tower set of projects, there was a particular idea I had for the common theme, and I got that idea from the opening segment to the Tangerine Dream live concert in Poland in 1983.
The beginning of the set, begins with this sort of “march” or cadence that has these minimal dark pads playing along with a prominent rhythm. It brought visions to my head of someone on a quest across vast landscapes.
In my mind, I would often think of the opening for The Gunslinger with this type of music playing… but perhaps a bit darker. Of course, I didn’t want to just clone what they did. No, not at all, but it set in my mind that I wanted to have a common march or Gunslinger cadence of my own.
